Art Approach

Common Snail sends monthly business insights via snail mail to business owners, leaders, multi-hyphenates, and community organizers. Every issue arrives by post, and every issue carries original art.

Each month orbits a topic. Some subjects are concrete, like TIME, while some are more organza, like GUTS.

Size

For most art commissions, the canvas is a 5.5×8.5 inch postcard. We’re open to anything that can fit beautifully in that rectangle.

Artistic Autonomy

Common Snail is a container that can hold many voices. EJ oversees each issue's cohesion and has final say on what runs, but within that, artists lead the creative direction of their own piece—expect collaboration on concept, not micromanagement of execution.

Payment & Rights

We typically pay a flat $450 per commissioned piece, but we occasionally commission work from established, higher-rate artists. In exchange, Common Snail gets ongoing, non-exclusive rights to use the piece in the mailer, on social media, and in future anthologies or other Common Snail materials. You keep full ownership—you're free to keep using, reproducing, printing, or licensing your own work anywhere else, then or later.
