Hey you, yeah you,

over there in that

niche.

Do you want to write (or ramble expertly) for Common Snail?

Contributor Approach

Common Snail sends monthly business insights via snail mail to business owners, leaders, multi-hyphenates, and community organizers. Every issue arrives by post, and every issue carries written resources, interactive exercises, original art, and more.

Each month orbits a topic. Some subjects are concrete, like TIME, while some are more organza, like GUTS.

If you’re an expert in your field, a generalist with a weird perspective to share, or one of your autistic special interests accidentally turned into a thriving business or a fascinating discovery, we’d love to hear from you.

Size & Content

Most paid contributions are for delivery of content (not design) for a full legal page (11×14 inches), front and back. The content can be any combination of an interview, a pack of resources, a tell-all column about your niche, a quiz, a template you swear by, and more.

True Collaboration

Common Snail is a container that can hold many voices. EJ oversees each issue's cohesion, designs the layout, and has final say on what runs, so it’ll be a collaboration from start to finish. That said, the point of bringing in collaborators is to get new voices involved, new expertise on the page, and more value for our readers.

Payment & Rights

We typically pay a flat $450 per commissioned piece, but we occasionally commission work from established, higher-rate contributors. In exchange, Common Snail gets ongoing, non-exclusive rights to use the piece in the mailer, on social media, and in future anthologies or other Common Snail materials. You keep full ownership—you're free to keep using, reproducing, printing, or licensing your own work anywhere else, then or later.
